About

I was lucky enough to spend over ten years with Mr Schmit-Jensen as we called him, and Katherine Kenny, my aunt who was, according to Mr. SJ his best pupil.  Every minute I spend with horses I am so thankful for the experience, which reached back through generations in one leap to his great friend and mentors General Decarpentry, Captain Beaudant, Herold, Zrust, Meixner, General Wattel, and Fillis who showed Mr. Schmit-Jensen Pas d'ecole first hand.   Left with his immense archives, I relive his lessons through his notes and his letters.  It is my humble opinion that the great men of yesteryear had the benefit of each other, collegiality and honour amongst gentlemen, and shared their studies with each other.  Today I find that is a rare quality in any world let alone the equestrian one.  For those who feel that they are not interested in the literature, the study and the education of yesteryear that is their prerogative, but to me it's like wanting to paint and having no interest in the great artists of the past!

Mr. Schmit-Jensen's mantra, from a man who knew and studied all the greats and the great methods, "take the best of all your studies and apply them as best suits your horse".
